Ilfracombe

This was a quick overnight stop on our way out to Emerald. We left Winton, stopped briefly in Longreach for groceries, then on to Ilfracombe.

The community pool at Ilfracombe has an artesian basin heated spa that we were looking forward to. We checked into the cabins in the caravan park (next to the pub!) then walked up the street to the pool. It was cash only for entry so luckily I had some on me, although they were also letting people in with the promise to pay later (reasonably pointing out there weren’t many places to stay so they could track them down later if they failed to pay).

Ilfracombe has machinery mile which is old machines, tractors and truck that line the main road for a good portion of the town.

But before we looked at machines we headed for the pool. The main pool was a bit chilly for me but everyone else enjoyed it. Although there were a few people at the pool, most of them were in the spa. We eventually managed to squeeze in and chatted with the grey nomads about other thermal springs they had visited.

After our swim and spa it was back to get ready for dinner with a look at some of the machines along the way. We sat outside at the pub which was pleasant to watch the sunset and give the kids more space to move around. When the sun went down there wasn’t much light outside so we were macgyvering lights with our phone torches.

Then it was off to bed with a big day of driving ahead of us.

A note for Pokemon Go players – I left some Pokemon in the gyms here and they took months to come back to me. The ones in Winton and Longreach were back within a couple of days, but the Ilfracombe ones were gone a while!
